Nursing Assistant Certified Program (NAC) Information and Requirements for 2011-12

The NAC program is a preparatory career and technical education program offered at PSSC for high school juniors and seniors in South King County. This national and state certified program in its second year has several mandated requirements. Only students who meet these criteria will be admitted to the program.
The NAC program offers 340 classroom hours and 50 clinical hours of internship in acute and long-term care settings. This program begins with students exploring multiple medical careers and education pathways to reach their personal and professional goals. The program curriculum then focuses on the NAC profession, which is an entry level health occupation. Successful completion of the program gives students the opportunity to earn up to 11 college credits and three high school credits as well as the ability to immediately start a career in this high demand field. Students have the opportunity to take the state certification test in the spring making them eligible for a position in medical field, including hospitals and long-term care facilities. Competitive wages, benefits, vacation, retirement and in some cases, paid or reimbursed tuition for continued education make this a value added opportunity.
This class also offers the opportunity to earn 5 University of Washington credits in BIOL100: “Addictions and the brain” to students interested in participation in UW in High School Program which is imbedded into curriculum of the NAC class.
